Blue Man Group Show
Relies on V1 Disk Recorder

March 12, 2002 - Burbank, CA – Doremi Labs' popular V1 family of Digital Video Disk Recorders is part of the breakthrough Blue Man Group theatrical production.

The Blue Man Group features three bald and blue characters performing on stage. The multi-media intensive show uses large screen video displays and a powerful sound system to envelop the audience in the world of the Blue Men. The show combines theater, percussive music, art and science. The Blue Man Group production also plays in New York, Boston and Chicago. Las Vegas’ Luxor Hotel hosts the most technically sophisticated Blue Man show that features the V1 disk recorders.

The fully automated video setup consists of five V1 disk recorders connected to a Dataton automation system. The video setup also includes three switchers and a 16x16 router. The instant video access capability of the V1 is a major benefit. Video clips, play lists and loops can be created quickly and the V1 will play back the video seamlessly.

As with any live event the reliability of the video equipment is of paramount concern. Blue Man’s audio-visual design team has been very pleased with the V1’s performance. The V1’s disk based video recording technology minimizes the use of mechanical parts thus significantly reducing the risk of failure and requiring zero maintenance.

The Blue Man Group uses the V1d disk recorder with analog and digital video (SDI) inputs and outputs. The V1d features VTR-like front panel controls and frame accurate playback and record capability. The V1d compresses the video on the hard drive using JPEG compression (up to 2:1). Doremi Labs' V1 video disk recorders are also available using MPEG2 compression or uncompressed. At NAB 2002 Doremi Labs will display the new HDTV uncompressed and MPEG2 disk recorders.
